What to expect at West Street Yangshuo
Well-known for the most crowded commercial street in Yangshuo, West Street Yangshuo offers the old houses in the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912), in the 1960s as well as the modern buildings on either side. The street is built in the large slabstones, presenting the old history. Some of the houses have white walls and red windows, showcasing the characteristics of the local traditional buildings.
You’ll find a variety of restaurants, accommodations, handicrafts shops, bars, cafes, local specialties shop, etc. Although it is lined with the Chinese houses, you’ll see the local culture and the international culture have a strong conflict as well as a good fusion.
In the daytime, you could just enjoy window shopping there. If interested in the name culture of China, you can customize your name and your motto or what you like on the beads at Surnames Cultural Center. Match Paradise (火柴天堂) features various types of interesting matches. Some of them are kind of nostalgic, some are amusing, and some are lovely. The shop of “一旧八0” preserves the old things in the 1980s, such as the typewriter, the camera, the bicycle, the black and white television, the record and the like. All of them remind us of the life in the 1980s in China.
If you are keen on the classical music, it is recommended that you pay a visit to the shop of Landscape Ocarina (山水陶笛). Ocarinas there have different shapes. And it is easy to learn how to play the ocarina. You could ask the owner how to play it. There are many interesting and exciting boutiques in the street.
West Street Yangshuo has Yangshuo Beer Fish, Guilin Rice Noodles and other kinds of local specialties to try. At night, the street is decorated with colorful lights. Bars offer a variety of music and live music shows. If you’d like to, you could take a tip of drink and appreciate the music at a relatively quiet bar.

If you’d like to visit the street for photography purposes, the best time to visit is at night.
The best months to visit are from April to November.
How to get to West Street Yangshuo
As the street is located at the center of Yangshuo and vehicles are forbidden to run there, it is suggested to rent a vehicle to the entrance to the street from your hotel in Yangshuo. Alternatively, if you take the Li River Cruise to Yangshou from Guilin, you can just walk to the street from the pier where the cruise ends at.
